DAGSI RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

As part of its ongoing effort to strengthen Ohio’s intellectual infrastructure in technology, DAGSI will award up to 15 new three-year Research Fellowships for academic year 2007/2008 to new doctoral students studying engineering/computer science at one of our three member institutions, the Air Force Institute of Technology, the University of Dayton, or Wright State University.  Through DAGSI, a student enrolled at one of the partner schools can take courses at the other two schools as part of the program of study.  These fellowships support full-time, research-based doctoral study and will be awarded to candidates who demonstrate exceptional capability and aptitude.

 * At its discretion, each DAGSI institution may supplement a Fellow’s stipend, in accordance with institutional policy.

Eligibility Criteria

Fellowships are awarded for research-based doctoral study in the fields of engineering and computer science.  Awards are highly competitive and based on merit.  Alignment of research interests with technology focus areas defined as critical to the state of Ohio** (see list in Section VII of fellowship application) will be taken into consideration.

How to Apply

Interested students must complete the Fellowship application and submit it to DAGSI by December 15, 2006.  Official or unofficial transcript(s) or grade report(s) must be received at DAGSI no later than December 22, 2006.  Fax to (937) 781-4005, or mail to DAGSI, 3155 Research Blvd., Ste. 205, Kettering, Ohio 45420, or email to [email protected] Official transcripts will be required for admission to graduate school.

It is the student’s responsibility to adhere to the deadlines.  Late applications or transcripts will not be accepted.

All applications will be reviewed initially for eligibility, using the criteria outlined above.  Eligible applicants will be evaluated in early January 2007 by a panel of faculty from all three DAGSI member institutions.  The panel will consider the following:  academic record; intellectual merit of the applicant (e.g., ability to plan and undertake research; ability to interpret and communicate research findings); previous research experience; interest in pursuing doctoral study and research at a DAGSI institution; alignment of research interests with Ohio's strategic technology platforms. Fellowship offers will be made by January 29, 2007.  All recipients, regardless of their commitment to DAGSI, will be invited to visit the three member schools at DAGSI’s expense.  Those accepting the award must apply to their DAGSI school of choice and must formally accept or decline their fellowship offers by April 1, 2007.

DAGSI strongly encourages women, minorities, and persons with disabilities to participate in the Fellowship competition.
